My Little Advice Through My Experience As a Grade Twelve Student

First and foremost thing I must mention here and which I advice most of the juniors until today is

– everyone has their own ways of studying and for you, your own way is the best. That’s what I used to believe as a high school student.

Hard work matters in this era. So study most of the time. Social networking is a bad habit. No Facebooking and all other media. I never logged in my Facebook account for that one year (2014) thinking that I must study hard. The sense of studying must come from within, deep from your heart. Not as an external force/compulsion. If you work via your interest, there is no such study routine and it’s not necessary too. Naturally and automatically, you will be reading sth every time. When you study every time without interruption, you gain focus and even knows what are the things you have to study and which are simple that you can omit. So studying be the priority and make it your leisure, work, sleep, and everything. Sacrifice your precious time with wonderful people. Do it at least for this year. You have enough time in the future.

I had no routine fixed for the day as a student like you. I just kept on reading and reading what was being taught. I made sure I finished all for the day. That’s what’s being taught on Monday, for example, must be finished revising on Monday itself. And if the revising for the day is finished early, don’t be relaxed. Take a little rest and continue with the books you think you should read.

My idea here is that, as a class twelve student, you have nothing but the books with you every time. Make best use of teachers, ask them questions. Don’t waste your free time in the class. Enjoy little and study more. No chit chatting with friends.

It’s good to participate in co-curricular activities. However, if you really need good marks in study, it won’t help. So don’t be the part of any school activity. I didn’t, that’s why.

Solve the past questions as much as possible. They are the best source too. But what I recommend the MOST is read, read and read the text books for all the subjects except for mathematics you have to practice a lot. By the time exam approaches, you must have finished reading the books for more than thrice. Not just reading. Make sure you got something every time you read. Blank reading is as good as not being read. Don’t keep the things piled up, don’t wait for the exam study leave to study. TOO BAD HABIT. Study leave is the time to revise for the fourth or even fifth time. Okay?

My rules as a student.

1. wake up at 3:30 am

2. Study the science subjects in the morning hours. 3:30 to 6:00 am. 2 hrs 30 minutes. That’s enough For the morning.

3. Until Monday to Friday, your day hours are fully spent in school. So, study in the class. Don’t let your friends to disturb you. Just study all the free hours.

4. Saturday, half day study. Come quickly at home. Don’t waste time. Get in the alter room. Lock yourself in the room. Don’t take any electronics with you. Just your books with you. Study. Before going make sure, your family won’t disturb you. Rest as you want and study.

5. Sunday is the best day to finish revising all that you have learned in the week. But preference must always be to the SCIENCE subjects. Finish revising all? Relax and enjoy just for few hours. Come again and study.

6. If you know something and that your friends don’t know. TEACH them because you will not forget it. Teaching your friend is the best way to learn yourself. (though I wasn’t that good at it 😁)

7. Don’t use mobile phone. I know u use it. But at least for the year 2018, give it up.

8. When it comes to evening, every day, by 6:00 pm you will be obviously at home. So, start studying from 6:00 and continue until dinner time. After dinner, continue again. I used to go till 11:00 and if needed sometimes up to 12:00 and 1:00 am. Seriously. Not a joke.

9. STUDY ACTIVELY. When you study, just study. Don’t think about unnecessary things. Be sure what you are studying. Which subjects and why.

10. First ever thing you must do before actually studying is to complete your homework. Then study.

11. Study science subjects in mornings, Dzongkha and English in the evening. Again, if you think you don’t have anything to study in English and Dzongkha, please it’s your main subjects. Science subjects are equally important.

Lastly, to be qualified for ex-country scholarships: you must score 55+ in English, 65+ in all science subjects and maths too. Dzongkha is tiebreaker.

Again it doesn’t mean you will be qualified if you get the marks above those mentioned above. They are just the lower limit. REMEMBER! There are many competitors in WHOLE BHUTAN. So it’s not easy. REMEMBER THAT OKAY? Always aim high. Don’t lose hope just because you couldn’t do well sometimes. Aim in 90+ scores so you will study hard to score at least in 70s and 80s. If your marks are in 70s and 80s for all subjects. YOU ARE IN SAFE ZONE. 90s are the best. 60s can’t assure you the scholarship.

Lastly do well

All the best

Thank you
