Chapter One: Where Dreams Go to Die.
Dear Life,
I’m writing this with a heart heavy as a stone, a heart that feels like it’s been carrying the weight of the world for far too long. I’ve always tried my best, tried to live with kindness and good intentions. I’ve never intentionally sought to hurt anyone, yet, despite my efforts, happiness seems to be a stranger I’ll never meet. It feels like everyone around me is wearing a mask, a facade of warmth, while underneath, they judge and criticize, their smiles turning to scorn the moment things don’t go their way. This precious life, it feels so fragile, so easily broken by the negativity that surrounds me.
I remember a time when I clawed my way out of the darkness, a promise whispered to myself that I would never succumb to those suffocating emotions again. But the negativity is relentless, a constant drone that wears down my resolve. It seeps into my soul, poisoning my thoughts, making it hard to breathe. Even those closest to me, the ones I’ve poured my heart into, are the ones who wound me deepest. Positivity feels like a distant star, always out of reach.
When your mind is drowning in negativity, words of comfort are like raindrops on a parched desert – they evaporate before they can offer solace. The mind becomes a prison, filled with echoes of self-doubt and despair. “I’m alone in this,” it whispers. “No one understands. No one cares.” The world shrinks, and the light dims. Even the simplest acts of kindness are met with suspicion, perceived as insufficient, as if the giver is holding back. It’s like offering a starving man a crumb and expecting gratitude.
And then there are those who live with a billionaire’s aspirations but a pauper’s work ethic. They dream of luxury but refuse to lift a finger, draining the energy and joy from everyone around them. They pollute the air with their negativity, infecting those who have the misfortune to be near.
I’ve reached a point of surrender. This world, with its fleeting pleasures and constant disappointments, has broken me. I’ve given up on trying to find happiness in its embrace. I’ve tried, God knows I’ve tried, to please, to connect, to make a difference. But all I’ve found is emptiness. I am useless, a burden, a failure in the eyes of those around me. It’s as if people delight in dragging others down, pulling them into the abyss of despair.
I know the value of this life, its impermanence, the law of cause and effect. I understand the beauty of enlightenment, the path to freedom from suffering. I know Dharma holds the key. But how can I take even the first step on that path when I’m gasping for air in this toxic environment?
Dear Life, I will accept the rhythm you’ve set for me, the melody you’ve composed. Even though it’s not the dream I held as a child, I will play the part you’ve assigned me. But please, understand this: it is not the life I would have chosen.

keep writing Dr.
